Worship

singing

We gather on Sunday mornings at 9:30am for our Service. We celebrate Communion on the first Sunday of every month. We honor the beautiful traditions of the Congregational Church with a focus on the Word and hymns. We also seek to blend new music and approaches to worship as we look to the future and welcoming all to join us.

Faith Formation

The Ladies Group has held monthly meetings for prayer, Bible study and faith formation. This fall, they will begin a series on growing in faith through prayer and other spiritual practices. The group meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 9 am with a one hour discussion followed by their meeting to plan activities and outreach.

New members are welcome to First Church and may schedule a meeting with the pastor to discuss their hopes for membership in the church.

Youth

We are hoping to collaborate with other local churches to begin a middle and high school youth group in the Kennebunks. If your son or daughter is interested, please let us know? Some of our teens have attended summer camp at Pilgrim Lodge, the Maine Conference of the United Church of Christ summer camp.

Outreach

Our Congregation is deeply committed to outreach in the local community. We have a representative who is active on the board of Community Outreach Services in Kennebunk and we support their work through donations of food and other resources which are directed to those in need in the greater community.

The Ladies Society has been active for many years in their ongoing support of the York Family Shelters Program. They collect new pillows which are provided for all guests at the shelter. We also collect non‐perishable food and other materials to support the work of this important shelter in Alfred.

Last spring, the Ladies organized a clothing and soup program for anyone in the broader community. Gently worn clothing of all sizes was available as well as a warm bowl of soup and other luncheon items for all who joined us that day. The church has an Outreach Committee which meets to discuss specific needs in the community which we might help support, in coordination with other local churches and the representative at Town Hall who alerts us to pressing needs.

The Ladies Society

This group of women from the church meets on a monthly basis to grow in faith as well as to plan activities which help serve the mission of the church as a whole.

Annual Christmas Fair

christmasfairIn addition to their regular meetings, the women sponsor the Annual Christmas Fair and Lobster Luncheon which is held on the first Saturday of the month during Christmas Prelude. This is a very popular event and attracts many folks, both from the local community as well as visitors to our area for Prelude. A delicious lunch is served and crafts and gifts are available for purchase.

Yard and Garden Sale

In June, the women hold their annual yard and garden sale which includes a luncheon. Lovely plants and flowers are sold as people begin to imagine preparing their gardens for the summer. Also, a variety of Yard Sale items are on sale for those who are seeking to recycle and re-purpose gently used items.
